Claire comes from a farming background and loves working alongside landowners, tourism operators and the wider community in her role as Community Ranger.
After nearly 25 years as a dairy farmer in both the UK and New Zealand, she began focussing on a career in conservation. Her work in predator control saw her undertaking jobs as diverse as pest management in bush and farmland, and tracking wallabies with conservation dogs. She also spent two years with DOC working with species like pekapeka (short tail bats), kōkāko and Archey’s and Hochstetter’s frog.
Claire has studied Dairy Herd Management, has a Certificate in Conservation Management and also took part in a Bay Conservation Alliance Tauira Mahi Cadet Programme in the Bay of Plenty which was the springboard to start her conservation journey.
In her spare time she enjoys time with the family, hiking, helping out the local trapping group, pottering in the garden, yoga and reading.
